Cloppenburg Q & A

Faithful Reader: Claire, you have mentioned that Cloppenburg is very Catholic. Is there anything special about their religious observances that you can share?

Dear Faithful Reader: Yes, they are very religious here in Cloppenburg. They also like to put the joy of their faith on display for the rest of the world to see. If you take a bike ride around Cloppenburg, the majority of the farmers have a crucifix outside of their house. I can only imagine that it also appears to be a sign of social status. That is, the richer you are, the more elaborate the crucifix that you have. I think this family must be at the top of the ladder.

Right, but what about the all important question?

What is stronger in Cloppenburg? The Catholic religion or the smell of manure?

That´s a good question! We haven´t decided yet!

Hi Claire,

Farmers have those all over by us too. I think it's kind of *spießig*. I'd like to see the correlation between the crucifix crowd and the blue diesel Mercedes C200 crowd. I bet it's right around 100%.

I read your other post too (the Dark Region). You're mother-in-law may have a point about drivers in Cloppenburg county. The MT reported a couple months ago that statistically they are the most accident prone in all of Germany.

Wow, that's one big crucifix! Haven't seen those around here. We're in a Protestant area so people mostly jut put garden gnomes out front. :-)

Oh my. That is a whole other level of curb appeal!

I reckon that family is expecting the extra comfy La-Z-Boy loungers when they get to heaven.

My dear Claire,

It would be much easier to be a "faithfull reader" if you were a faithfull blogger. When I last checked, today was the 20th of June, and you haven't made an entry since last Sunday. How can we know what's going on????
